Employment of health information administrators is expected to grow much faster than the average for all occupations through 2012, due to rapid growth in the number of medical tests, treatments, and procedures that will be increasingly scrutinized by third-party payers, regulators, courts, and consumers.
RHIA Job Outlook
Health information administrators held about 147,000 jobs in 2002. Thirty-seven percent of all jobs were in hospitals. Employment opportunities exist for RHIAs in any organization that uses patient data or health information such as pharmaceutical companies, law and insurance firms, and health product vendors.
